In ancient times, many peoples believed that the reason for the commission of any actions of a sleeping person lies in the fact that the Moon has a special mystical phenomenon on a person. Now science has given another name to this phenomenon - somnambulism.
If somnambulism is expressed in a mild form, then a person sleepwalks without leaving his own bed. He can sit, move his arms and legs and gesticulate. Moreover, do not be surprised or frightened if you hear incoherent phrases from him.
How is sleepwalking manifested?
However, most sleepwalkers are more active. They move around the apartment, move objects, perform various tasks, and can even answer basic questions. As a rule, sleepwalkers do not go beyond the boundaries of a room or apartment, but history knows of cases where they went a few miles from the house. The sleepwalking attack usually lasts no more than 40 minutes and ends when a person returns to bed.
The face of a person suffering from somnambulism does not express absolutely no emotions, while his eyes are open. All actions committed by a person in an attack of somnambulism are completely unconscious and when awakening, a person does not remember anything about his attack.
The reason for sleepwalking
Scientists interested in studying this phenomenon have identified the reason: this is a tendency to form foci of excitement in the human brain during the deep phase of slow sleep. Usually, impressionable people suffer from this.
About 15% of children and 2% of the adult population of the planet suffer from somnambulism.Children are more prone to manifestations of sleepwalking for the simple reason that their organisms are actively developing and, accordingly, there is a restructuring of the brain. Also a big influence is that they absorb a huge amount of information every day. The cause of sleepwalking in a child may be the psycho-emotional background: fatigue, stress, insomnia. An increase in temperature can also trigger an attack of sleepwalking.
The same reasons provoke the manifestation of somnambulism in an adult. However neuropsychiatric disorders are the most common cause and intoxication of the body. An attack of sleepwalking can also be one of the symptoms of epilepsy.
If you are faced with the problem of sleepwalking once, then it’s enough to simply provide a person with safety and put him to bed. If the disease is not random in nature, but is repeated regularly, then you should consult a specialist.
